About this app

Learn Norwegian / Lær deg norsk!

Mjølnir is a language learning app developed specifically for Norwegian, and with English as a starting point.
It combines the quality content of a textbook, the interactivity of a smartphone app and the effectiveness of a memorisation tool.

It is designed with a focus on expatriates living in Norway and aims to cover the hundreds of notions of pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary that take you past the tipping point after which you can continue to learn the language simply by using it every day.

Much better than other apps I've tried for learning Norwegian, especially for listening exercises including different accents and dialects. I appreciate the explanations of different aspects of the language as well, and reasoning behind the translations. It has a simple UI that's easy to use once you get used to it, where you rate the difficulty of a translation and that determines how long until you're retested on it.

I love this system so far! This isn't a "translate this word for points" style of learning. It's a tool meant to be part of a structured process- think of it like you're paying for a class instead of a game. The "flashcards" + auxiliary tips have taught me more about language in a week than I learned with 4 years in high school. The 5 day free trial and their website will give you a good idea of what to expect!

Better than Duolingo for learning the language. The only issue is that occasionally it will think that you've already done today's lesson when you haven't, thus forcing you to do extra tomorrow. Also, window bounds are not applied in the app, so some of the buttons are partially blocked by the status bar at the top of the screen on some devices.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your review! If you make sure the app is closed when your device crosses midnight into the next day, this should take care of the issue. Feel free to get in touch with support for more details. All the best and happy learning!

What’s new

Quick update to address the new transparent top bar of the newer Android device, so that the top and bottom buttons of the interface can be used correctly.
