Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

The differences between a free and premium subscription plan is accessibility. Usually premium is for extra or more advanced options whereas a free trial provides the most basic features. Tell me why I have to pay $90 a year for basic features like checkboxes and font editing, the same features I could access in apps like Apple Notes, Google Keep, or even Notesnook who is your direct competitor. This app could've been in my top spot if it didn't put basic features behind a trivial paywall.

This app definitely hits a lot of my boxes. Privacy focused, decently organized, tagable, searchable, as far as I can tell unlimited if I want to write a long paper and saves to txt. One of my favorite things is it has the option to sort by the last time I actually did something to a file or by date..it shows a snippet of info which is nice, the ui is clean and orderly and the backup sensible.My complaint is the export/share is very limited! Need at least PDF or doc to export and collab properly

I have used nearly every note taking app there is. some have a couple features I want, but it doesn't check every box. I want to be able to self-host, support syncing on multiple devices, E2EE on my data, & have a modern interface. SN has it all. the only thing I disagree with is the price. they have to make money I know, I don't mind paying. but for self-host, I don't think it should be a subscription. but this review is for the actual app, performance, & usability. on that it deserves 5 stars.
