About this app

Krita is a full-featured digital painting application designed for artists. Whether you create illustrations, comics, animations, concept art or storyboards – Krita will be a powerful tool for you.

Krita offers many common and innovative features to make painting more fun and more productive. There are great brush engines for sketching and painting, stabilizers for freehand inking, assistants for constructing complex scenes, a distraction-free canvas-only mode for painting without bother, clone layers, layer styles, filter and transform masks for non-destructive editing. Krita supports all the most used file formats, including PSD.

Krita supports animation with onion skinning, storyboarding, comic book project management, scripting in Python, many powerful filters, selection tools, colorizing tools, color managed workflows, flexible workspaces… And much, much more. Discover the full feature set of Krita at https://krita.org!

This is a beta release of Krita and is not suitable for real work yet. Since the interface is currently optimized for big screen devices (tablets and chromebooks) we are not making it available for phones yet.

Krita is created by the Krita Foundation and Halla Rempt Software. The Krita project is part of the KDE community.

If you have a compatible device, a tablet with a pen preferably, this is just about the best deal for an art program out there. Fully featured raster and vector layers, scripts, and full stylus support. All this at the cost of free, because of the dedicated Open Source community. The app is still in development, but the only issue I've had was creating a new file from the splash screen, doesn't update the window.

Honestly, having access to all of the amenities of the PC port is fantastic. We love Krita, but the mobile version needs to be loved by the development team. The worst part is that it is hard to navigate on phone UI and the shortcuts are locked to keyboard inputs, which incentivizes buying a bluetooth keyboard. I need to see if there is an easier way to clear up space for actual drawing on the app, otherwise this experience is rather fruitless. We just need space to work with!

There's good news and bad news regarding this drawing app. The good news is that it's uncompromised from the desktop version, so it's every bit as capable a drawing program. This technically puts it head and shoulders above every other mobile drawing app I've used. The bad news? ...It's uncompromised from the desktop version. In fact it's EXACTLY like the desktop version. Even with a pressure sensitive stylus, it's near unusable unless you have a keyboard, mouse, and larger screened tablet.

Krita 5.2.14 Release

The release has the new version of the color picker preview. Previously, we used two rectangles side by side. This was a little annoying for right handed people, as the squares veered off to the right. If they were using a display tablet, their hands would obscure the preview.

Now, we provide a circular preview by default, and you can customize the size of the preview. Or just go back to two rectangles side by side!

The release also includes multiple fixes for Android.
