I've learned so much this past month! And it's a great way to utilize downtime! But my free trial just ran out meaning tons of adds, less room for mistakes, and less opportunities to practice without having to use (a lot of) gems. I get charging for it, but it's either $13 per month or 10 but you have to pay for a whole year in advance if I understand correctly. I would love to see a more affordable option! Or a monthly version of the family plan!! Love duo and don't want so many interruptions!

I bought the ad-free version to learn Irish. It annoys me that it doesn't explain any grammar; it only does words and phrases. In time, you do start to infer the way that some of the grammar works, but something more explicit would be better. The timed challenges are essentially impossible to complete in the time allotted. A lag between when words appear on the left and when their translation appears on the right induces mistakes. They seem designed to get you to buy the extra time.

honestly, despite the ads, this app is truly free. you can practice and get your hearts back. no other language app does that. if you like it and have friends that do it, think about upgrading to the family plan together. it's actually pretty affordable. i enjoy it a great deal. but I started off with the free edition. maybe you won't become fluent but it makes learning a language way less intimidating and casual. it's fun, addictive, and you don't ever have to feel bad about doing it for hours!
