Love the app. Also the latest update is superb. -- After almost a year of using the app I did find an issue that bothers me quite a bit. Almost all of the soundbites that are used in many courses that I've tried have very much different volume levels. Some standard volume normalisation across the courses would be much appreciated. Other than that the app still remains one of the best in it's category.

Though I like this app and paid for the full version, there are almost no chances to make errors. There are only a few options for each answer. A step to further learning would be using more letters/words instead of either unscrambling the word, or picking from an easy list. I think it would be difficult to go beyond a beginner french level with this app.

I've been using this brilliant app for almost a year now. But there's a feature that is needed: sometimes we accidently click on a course which we don't want to learn but it gets permanently added in the home menu. There's no option to delete it from there... So please if u could introduce this feature, there would be no flaws left in this app.♡

Really easy explanations and helpful tools to remember words. I suggest for rembering how to spell words is writing them down. I like the fact they don't force you to pay for it, it's just an option there in case you would like to upgrade. Maybe lower the pro price down to the price of just one language per year and you choose what one not all of them? Thank you!

So easy fun and addictive. The only reason I didn't list five stars is because when challenged to spell a word they only list the letters you need so it threw me off. So if a two word phrase has two (t)s for example they only list one. Genius now that I think about it. You have to use your brain...imagine that. Already knowing some languages gives me a heads up but I 've no one to speak with as I am the only one in my family who cares to learn other languages. You lose it. So I downloaded this app for relearning. It's fantastic.

Gamification of learning is ok but the app is Short of ux. Web is ok but mobile app sux about ux. While typing for answers if you're using it wit right hand and one handed. You are pressing check button accediantly and before you finish typing it accepts your answer as wrong. Annoying ux. What kind of testers do you have? How can it be an awarded app?

Fantastic, easy introduction into languages and easy explaining for topics of the language, and it teaches you everything you need to know! Although they don't pronounce some letters correctly in the Spanish part of it, it is great as long as you know what is right and wrong. (V's sound like B's in Spanish!)
I can read Hirigana n it took me a week??!! What i thought was gonna be a daunting task, literally became childs play. Maybe adding more memes to better recall but the fact that i can make my own, counterbalances that point. 10 out of 10. The app is brilliant
So much better than Duolingo-- as far as Korean goes. ;) But seriously, it's a versatile method. Only downfall is that it pushes you to purchase a yearly subscription, whereas Duolingo just says "Here's an ad, it's just here to keep this all free, no catch." so yeah, pushing the subscription and withholding features is a bit old.
There are some errors in language courses and trying out my native tongue I ended up with errors, because (some) course construction is very flawed (like no one learns a language by just brutally conjugating verbs that they don't know the meaning of). On top of that if you move from course to course you lose the day streak. Plus overlapping words that you have already learned should be automatically removed from the next courses.
It was fun at first, the free part gets you excited. I've paid for a membership now and I am surprised at how poorly this actually works! It forces you into a simulated chat with others before it tells you the words and it forces you to guess. About a third of the time you translate an audio file from English it asks you to translate it to english. Starts giving you huge compound words and then asks you to spell them. If you get something wrong 10 times and get it right once it goes on without hardening your understanding. If you're a beginner, this is not your app.
I LOVE THIS APP! It's easy to use, love and learn! It asks you to buy a fancier version with memorization games and songs and things, but I'm doing just fine without the "better" package. But to each is own! I highly recommend this app! 😙
I use duolingo and memrise to help improve my Spanish. But I like the approach memrise has and the way it teaches you common phrases and not just words and the speed answer section is helpful to practice how quickly you can come up with the right words. I love it. I just wish that there was more material in the free app, maybe a free trial or something would be nice.
An excellent app, and I have bought the pro version. As I have a little knowledge of my chosen language,Polish, this app is what I needed, repetition, repetition, repetition through reading, writing and listening. I have learnt and consolidated so much in two weeks already. But without some knowledge of my chosen language I would have found it confusing and wondered where it was going. I think this app is best used in conjunction with a course book or language school.
This app is wonderful in helping me learn japanese and spanish. However there is a service purchasable in app that I haven't used because I found it to be extremely pricey for what it sounded like it offered. This purchase isn't necessary for the app to work wonders. I suggest using this app for learning new languages.
I'm taking a star off because the speed review is extremely frustrating. I know hiragana and katakana 100% and I have zero problems with the vocabulary yet every time I go through the speed review and watch that bar speed up the left side of my screen it's literally all I can focus on. It's seriously frustrating and discouraging and every day that I've hit the speed review I've not come back to the app for days at a time. If I could make it so that never comes up I'd be 100 percent on board with buying the pro version, as long as that's in the rotation though it's a severe hindrance to my learning.
In the Arabic language, I noticed for the audio test it doesn't have Arabic letters under the speaker icons. How am I supposed to know what position of "laam" I'm listening to without the letter under it? Edit: now it's worse. The app quizzes you by asking you what the Arabic equivalents of the letters given. And instead of letting you just pick the correct letters, you HAVE to pick the commas or whatever the upside down semicolons are, IN the ORDER that is shown in the given list! I don't understand why you guys got an award.

Hi Raya,
We are happy to announce our first official Memrise Arabic courses for English speakers are now live. Please tap this link to start learning them. http://www.memrise.com/courses/english/arabic/
All feedback is welcome!
Best,
Ana I'm confused. I'm my computer memrise allows me to login with any login I may have however on my phone you have to pick an account you already have. This is annoying because I have an account with my classmates with a class leaderboard but I can't get to that unless I'm using my laptop. Please can you fix/ make it clearer so people can login easier
I like it but I really wish there wasn't as much Romanized korean. I really wish that when you're spelling the word you spell it in korean instead of the romanized version. It makes me feel like I'm not making progress if I don't know how to properly read and write the word.
Mostly good, except it gets stuck too often. It would freeze after I choose an answer, or it would mute when there suppose to have voice. Also, the speed course. It's not fair to those who read slowly. Before I can finish reading the answers, the time expires already. But other then that, it's a pretty usefull app!
Denial river?? How am i supposed to move forward if i dont know the answer? The sos button doesnt help it just repeats itself
Many apps aren't very immersive. This is by far the the most useful free Japanese learning app I've found (and I've tried many), but they could use more character teaching in the beginning.
I decided to check out this app when it was listed as the best app of 2017. I have to say this app deserved that badge. I've never seen any app that teaches you a new language like this one. I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to learn a new language and is very lazy like me.
I have been having trouble with this app recently. While using it, sometimes it just stops working, Even though there's no problem with my phone, only this app, but still I have to lose in between a review or learning session.
If you want to support the automatic process of learning a language, this does the trick. They even try to include some negotiation skills with the conversation bots but it's way too stiff. Good try though! The video snippets of natives are pure gold. Someone said in a review that Spanish pronunciation in the app was wrong because the V's sound like B's 😂 well I hope you read this, because you should know, that's the way it's meant to be in Spanish!
So far I am thoroughly enjoying the app. It offers a lot and has various activities to help you remember a word. I don't feel rushed while learning. And I'm offered ample time to study
Unlike the other big language learning app (let us call it 'Two') memrise actually has tutorials for every single word, which is a huge plus. However it is flawed in that it does not teach you the words systematically but by common phrases. I.e. in German you learn 'dir' before 'du' which is confusing unless you know the reason. Also it has only one correct answer, which is limiting making 'Two' a better app.
The amount of feedback you get from every action is incredible. Keep in mind though, I've only had this app for about a half an hour or so. So far though not only is this app educational, it's also delightfully creative.
Great app to learn new languages.. Only problem is at several stages to unlock some special kits it needs u to upgrade urself as a pro for which u need to pay money...this is the only thing else it is a gr8 learning app.
It's great! The only issue I have is with the spelling cause I have trouble spelling in English so other languages are even harder
I paid the 30 bucks for the year pro thing. Worth it. Better than duolingo because you can actually understand the voices because they're actual recordings of real people talking instead of just trying to understand what some terrible robot voice is trying to say
Mems, or short visual aids created by the community or the creator of a set, have been removed. You can now only see mems that you have created yourself, which completely ruins this resource. You might as well use Quizlet or any other flashcard app now, something with a better interface for finding sets, because the one thing making Memrise unique is gone.
I'm using this app to learn Mandarin. I think it's really frustrating that there's no way to use traditional characters.
This really helped me practice my Japanese and help me remember. This game is one of my favorite things to do when I'm bored to. It always helps no matter what languages your learning!
The app is good. I just foud a bug that in leader board if you choose all time then pull the screen down until reload the number will change. Seem it is this week but the title still all the time
Nice, but the lack of equal male/female representation in the sound examples, not to mention the all-white cast put me off & would definitely stop me from trying the paid version. (I tried German) I'm also a bit doubtful about some of the exercises. A discussion option would be useful in such cases.
I still love this app even a year later. However, I'm a bit disappointed in the Memrise Korean course so far. There's a HowtoStudyKorean course that I like much better. The Memrise one is kinda confusing. It uses romanizatiom, which is fine, but when you start learning the hangeul characters, it would be better to use their actual names. It makes it hella confusing to differentiate the vowel vs. syllable when they're the same thing. The syllable is the proper name for the vowel, and you wouldn't see the vowel by itself. Consonant names also give a good reference for how the vowel should sound. Just a suggestion.
For someone who does not have a computer or internet other than some very low speed data on my phone, this app is perfect for me to continue to learn NT Greek. Just when your about forget something that you learned in the past it will have you review and remind you of it. Its not just text either. Its also audio for pronunciation. I don't pay for this but I'm sure the paid version is great because the free version is great.
I wish yhere could be a bit more of free learni g for tgose who wouldn't be abpe to really pay. I mean i can but i would love to learn a bit more and try more everyday a bonus of 10 words per day login But really job well done. Made with great efforts. The ideology and techniques of audio visual learning are great. I hope for a great success i will surely suggest your app to many others
Love Memrise! Best language app since Duolingo doesn't have Japanese. I have always had a hard time learning languages, but Memrise is actually teaching me! I don't bother with the ridiculous chatbots, and I forgo the speed reviews since all I get is stressed. But if I use my willpower not to look at the multiple choice answers, just think of the right word first and then look for it to click it, I find Memrise to be absolutely priceless for learning. Also learning the Japanese prefectures, from the non-language courses. Awesome!!!
