I love Memrise. Duolingo is fine, but it's a bit more obnoxious. For example, after you choose the answer, you push the button to check, then you have to push another button to continue, even though you can't stop at that time anyway. It just throws me off and interrupts my rhythm. Memrise is more helpful to me with the efficiency of learning, the short bursts of lessons that I can do at my leisure and the memes, since I am very visual. It's less condescending to me, and more fun. 💗👍

This is a really good study tool, especially if you'rea beginner who wants a taste of a language before going deeper. The range of game modes makes it easy for me to motivate myself to study in various situations/moods, the premium vocab lists are fun, and the free courses are useful and plentiful. The app has areas it could improve still, like adding course search tools, and it's far from being the only study tool you need conversational skills. But it's a good app.

It feels like slow progress, going over things I've gotten right many times before. Likely that's what it takes for vocabulary and usage to become second nature. Great variety of approaches - definitions, comprehension, composition, spelling, and so on. I also like that it comes at the material both starting from the English and starting from the French, and gives the original, literal translation, and the vernacular. I think all that helps create a more immediate and instinctive understanding.
