About this app

This app is useful for experimenting with the phenomenon of Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) to disrupt speech.
DAF might have other uses, involving speech therapy or practicing speeches that will be presented in large venues where echoes are a problem.
The app is currently currently targeted for Android devices with built-in echo cancellation abilities, such as smart phones that support speakerphone features. If you run on a tablet, which typically does not implement echo cancellation, use headphones to prevent runaway audio feedback.

Controls include volume and delay. Adjust the volume to prevent runaway feedback. Adjust the delay for optimal disruption of talking. We find that 150 milliseconds works pretty well. For best results, the phone should be placed as close to the subject's head as practical.

No ads, free, fully functional. Voluntary contribution suggested via in-app billing, with no nags.

The app works quite well; it's pretty straight forward. I had to cut volume to approx. 80% to completely avoid any feedback loop on my device. I'm not particularly that familiar with the specifics of the phenomenon, but I think there was a ~decent amount of delay variance before it would work to trip up different people...but I'm not sure...? It might be helpful if the adjustment for delay had some indication of a range where the effect is most likely to occur with most people...I guess...(?)

This app functions SUPERbly. However the DAF turns off after a while (like 1-2 minutes). It could be my phone's lock timer. Also it would help a lot to allow increasing of the gain so the volume is better. Overall big ups to the developer. The BIGGEST feature is that the app is able to use your bluetooth's microphone instead of the phone's internal mic which none other apps on your phone can do, except during phone calls, thanks to andriod 10+ updates. Developer-sama, how did you do this?

Other users requested the bluetooth feature, so I added it. Android apps do not automatically use bluetooth for microphone input; one needs to add extra API calls. I am glad it is working for you. The app has a "Play in background" setting. See if that prevents the app from stopping after 1-2 minutes. Will look at increasing the gain-- difficult.

Ive downloaded all of the apps and this is best one becouse it doesnt echo noises. BUT I really really wish that you could make the delay longer. Like 1or 2 seconds of delay. Because im practicing accent and I have to constantly hear my own voise to correct it.

Wow, I had not considered that use for this app. I am not certain the echo cancellation feature built into Android that we are utilizing will work for a 2 second duration, but we are willing to experiment. Send e-mail to sells@sagebrush.com if you want to test a beta version with the extended delay range.
