Ping is a computer network diagnostic tool used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It sends an ICMP Echo Request message to the target host and waits for an ICMP Echo Reply message in response. The time it takes for the request to reach the target host and the reply to be received is measured and displayed as the round-trip time (RTT). Ping is commonly used to troubleshoot network connectivity issues, determine network congestion, and measure the quality of a network connection.
