I was using other apps, Duolingo / Babel, and neither did a good job training my ear to hear the language I was trying to learn. The app is good to use for the first few months of learning a new language but then will want you to pay for one on one speaking lessons, which I couldn't afford. Their customer service was helpful in refunding my money when there was confusion about my subscription not being cancelled.

I am a big fan of the Fluent Forever book. I did not find the app as helpful. As a professional educator, I applaud many of the pedagogical choices that went into the development of the app, but I think upgrades need to be made. I would suggest a pause button for the videos and a transcription of the videos for non auditory learners. Also, Korean has complex grammar, including particles that we do not have in English. Memorizing sentence placement will not be enough. $9.99 a month? Not yet

I'm about two months into studying Japanese with this app (from square zero, no prior knowledge) For pronunciation, vocabulary and learning syllabaries (Alphabet) it has been a delight. I echo that lack of play/pause or landscape for videos is a bummer. Font for listen and correct buttons should be different colors. More videos sooner on sentence structure instead of purely vocab and pronunciation would be nice (have to go to other sites for now). Overall great at vocab and has room to improve.
