ABOUT THE MASSKARA FESTIVAL

Experience the festival that launched a thousand smiles! This 2022, MassKara is back to do what it does best – turn frowns upside down.

MassKara was born out of a crisis in the 1980s when the price of sugar, Bacolod’s main commodity, plummeted and caused a terrible famine. In the face of tragedy, Bacolodnons proved their resilience by holding the first-ever MassKara Festival—a loud, proud, and colorful celebration of smiles.

What started as a three-day event has turned into a monthlong revelry of music, food, art, pageants, and parades. Every October, the city wears its brightest smiles for the occasion, hence the festival’s icon: a smiling mask painted with a flurry of color.

In 2020, as COVID-19 dimmed smiles all over the world, festivities took a backseat. But this year, we’re proving our resilience once more as MassKara makes its biggest comeback! Taking to the streets with our biggest shows, biggest feats, and biggest celebrations yet, we’re ready to welcome you to Bacolod and give you endless reasons to smile.

Like we say in our local language, “Balik Yuhum.” It’s time to smile again
