In short: A little janky but works great. Purchased a new phone last year. Since then my hotspot doesn't work with my very old kindle hdx (it only has wireless g or something). This makes it a pain to get new books while on road trips. Wifi direct isn't enabled for file sharing on my phone, bluetooth isn't enabled on the hdx (lineage os is experimental), and I ran out of options. This app cleared it up for me so I have a lifeline on the go.

This app does a great job of connecting to Wi-Fi Direct for you and allows files or folders to be sent or received fast to either device. Just make sure you don't have airplane mode turned on and make sure your Wi-Fi is on. I couldn't get Hifi | WiFi Direct File Share app to work properly on one of my devices which uses Pie. I'm glad I discovered WiFi Direct +. Just tap either | Select Files | or | Select Folder | (buttons) and follow the instructions about double tapping a folder to select it.

Creates a folder on device called "wifi_direct_files" which will only be visible on Android if you switch folder view settings from "essentials" to "all". This is important because if you uninstall the app, the folder and its contents will be invisible taking up space on your phone. A progression bar on the phone that is receiving files would also be nice. Large files often transfer but are incomplete, and the end of the file is missing as reported by the file size. Bluetooth is not required.

The folder is not hidden, it's a regular folder used to store the files you receive from other devices. It doesn't make sense to delete it after uninstall since this are your files. You can delete the folder yourself using any file explorer.
