Appy Weather is privacy-first. It doesn’t collect or process any user data.

If location permission is granted, your location will be stored locally on your device – it’s never shared with a third party.

Your location enables hyper-local forecasting when the app is run. Widgets & notifications check your location in the background when they’re updated/sent.

Edit: Might have been the battery saver settings. The launcher was probably the issue. Though I removed saving from the app and the launcher. Thanks dev! Not bad, but widget doesn't update. I can click the widget to open the app and you can see an updated forecast. But the widget never updates. I've tried all the frequency options.

I like this app. Clean and simple. Few things though! Would love the nav bar to match the app body in the light theme. Also...the weather icons in the app...options would be awesome. Edit: Thanks for the reply! Yes the system Nav Bar for light and dark themes. And AWESOME! More font and icon options are always great. Any way notifications can be similar to that app that left Android users high and dry? Again, GREAT WORK!!!

I tried just about every decent weather app on the Google Play Store looking for a replacement for Dark Sky, and Appy got my money. Compared to Dark Sky, it's missing some control over notifications (but that's in the works) and the layout makes data a bit more difficult to read but maybe I just need to get used to it. I love that there's a lot of data available (including my favs: precipitation probability and UV index) but they're hidden away to avoid clutter. One last thing: I contacted the dev to suggest a few improvements for us Dark Sky expats and he was incredibly responsive to my suggestions and most of what I was missing is seemingly under construction!! Overall, I'd recommend Appy as a replacement for Dark Sky or simply if you want an uncluttered but complete weather app created and maintained by a dev who cares.

What's new

Fixed weather not loading if location permission has been denied. In my checks at launch, there was an oversight scenario. Nothing sinister going on, trust me. So sorry!

The app now targets newer Android APIs: for the app to be allowed background location updates, give permission via the app’s system settings -> Location screen. You’ll need to change it so it’s allowed access all the time (not just when using the app). Also, you’ll be prompted to allow notifications if you’re a sub on launch.
