About this app

Galaxy map is an interactive map of the Milky Way galaxy, Andromeda and their satellite galaxies. Explore the Orion Arm's nebulae and supernovae from the comfort of your spaceship. Fly through the atmosphere of Mars and many other planets and you can even land on them.
Discover the galaxy in a stunning three dimensional map based on NASA's artistic impression of the Milky Way galactic structure. Photos are taken by NASA spacecraft and ground based telescopes like Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-Ray, Herschel Space Observatory and the Spitzer Space Telescope.

From the outskirts of the galaxy, in the Norma-Outer spiral arm to the galactic center's supermassive black hole Sagittarius A*, discover a galaxy full of amazing facts. Notable structures included: the Pillars of Creation, Helix Nebula, the Engraved Hourglass Nebula, the Pleiades, the Orion Arm (where the solar system and the Earth are located) with its Orion belt.

Check out neighboring dwarf galaxies such as Sagittarius and the Canis Major Overdensity, stellar streams as well as internal galactic components such as a variety of nebulae, star clusters or supernovae.

Features

★ Immersive spacecraft simulation allowing users to fly to different planets and moons and explore the depths of gas giants

★ Land on terrestrial planets and take command of a character, exploring the unique surfaces of these distant worlds

★ Over 350 galactic objects rendered in 3D such as: nebulae, supernova remnants, supermassive black holes, satellite galaxies and clusters of stars

★ Global accessibility with support for over 100 languages

My Darlin' Gal & I dig this app. The interface is easy to navigate and the tutorial was concise and helpful. I would love to see updates to some of the descriptions and the ability to zoom the pictures in the info section of the chosen 'object'. We were pleased by the explanations of the photo's make-up (visual image, enhanced infra-red, etc.). This is one I may actually pay for, even if the additional content isn't very large (haven't checked yet) out of appreciation for the work as-is. 👍

Glad you like it! I am preparing a large update with some cool new features and remaking a large portion of the nebulae in 3D. I'd say hopefully in 2 weeks. Thanks!

I am an amateur astronomer. This app has lots of great information, but the graphics are not accurate in portraying stars and nebulae. They look CGI generated. The nebulae all appear to be the same shape and color, and the graphics' vibrant colors are NOT what photos or telescopes show. And you can't zoom in on the solar system. However, I like how this app shows the positions and shapes of all the companion galaxies, and also no ads. But moving things on screen around was wonky, and tedious.

I tried to recreate the nebulae as best as I could using an engine that would work on most mobile phones (even old ones). Knowing the exact shape of each nebula in 3D and modelling it to work for that many mobile phones are two impossible tasks. They will never look just like the telescope pictures.

Controls are impossible. I go to zoom in and instead it highlights something I didnt want to click on and that highlight is there forever, blocking anything else I want to look at. Or I tap a region just to see the name and instead it zooms in or out to a completely different map view and wont let me just go back. A shame, because it seemed interesting, but too frustrating to use.

Besides many bug fixes, a lot of cool new features have been added over the years. If you are still interested about space, please give the app another chance. Thank you!
