Very much pay to win. You'll try and try to get the one item needed to upgrade your spell, but the "random" drops won't include it. Then you'll see it drop mid battle, but you'll suddenly and inexplicably lose that battle, and your item, unless you pay 10 gems to continue. Gems are only available with real money. See the scam? Once you figure it out, the game loses all appeal, since you know you'll never advance.

I really like this game, but the balancing issue tests my desire to keep playing. I'm fine with the monsters' damage scaling with your level, as that keeps up the challenge, but I shouldn't break into a cold sweat every time I tap on a 3 star battle. The "free to play, pay to win" model rarely works on games like this. I think "free to play, pay to be impatient" would work better. Maybe focus on in-app purchases for gold or chests with random monster drops?

It's a very cool concept. One thing I find a bit annoying is when you are farming for things needed to upgrade your cards, it costs so much energy. EDIT: After playing for a couple months, this game does have a lot of potential and I do understand the grind a bit. I do think it's a little too grindy to get the drops you need to upgrade your artifacts but other than that, this game is cool. I would love to see a multi-player feature in the future like clubs or teams. Or maybe trade stickers.
