About this game

This application is a digital companion for the Chronicles of Crime board game.

Using the same set of physical components (a board and cards representing locations, characters, and items), the Chronicles of Crime app lets you and your friends step into a world of mystery and play out your investigations.

Launch the app, select the scenario you want to play, and reveal a story built from your choices as you pursue your goal: uncover the clues behind the crime, chase the evidence, and find the killer as quickly as possible.

Using the game’s Scan&Play technology, each physical component has a unique QR code which can unlock different clues and events--if the players are paying close enough attention. Additional original scenarios will be available after the release of the physical game via app updates, with no new or additional physical components required.

The game’s VR experience requires only a mobile phone: Players put the VR glasses provided onto their mobile device, then raise them in front of their eyes to immerse themselves in the game's universe and search for clues in a virtual world.

Each game session should last 60 to 90 minutes, and players will find some scenarios connected to others, revealing a larger mystery to be solved...

The app works quite well, but has a few rough edges. The only game-breaking one we found so far was that there is no "back button" when it displays multiple pages of text. Too many times one of our players accidentally tapped "Next" without reading, with no way of anyone seeing what was missed. The VR images are really low-resolution, at one point we couldn't find an item at a scene even when we knew what we were looking for. We just scanned the card as if we did to move on.

For such a well-designed game, the number of cases is disappointingly low. Replayability is also very low. Despite the VR moments being quite rare (1-2) per mission, the gameplay still makes you feel l accomplished. The DLC is heavily overpriced. Maybe with more freely available publisher-provided content, I could give more stars.

I really enjoyed this, the mysteries are really thought out and stimulating, the only qualm I have is after a couple uses of the scanner the camera refuses to focus and I have to go to the history screen a couple times before it focuses again. Other then that i really great mix of physical board games and app technology.
