About this app

Kanji Draw is a tool created to help you practice your Japanese writing and improve your character memorization skills. As all Japanese language students should know, kanji stroke order is essential and needs to be known and implemented from the very beginning.

Feature highlights include:

★ Practice and Test Modes;
★ Stroke directional support and step through;
★ Draw completely from memory (i.e. quizzing without template);
★ Accuracy statistics and goal-based progression;
★ Randomization based on Accuracy and Frequency;
★ Configurable Canvas.

*Edited after developer response: Jumps ahead without much logic to the kanji being introduced. Would be more useful if it solidified simple and common kanji first, but it doesn't bring them back often enough after gold status- leading to low retention. Not helpful if your goal is to learn meaning or pronunciation. The emphasis is only on stroke order. This is ok for reviewing kanji learned elsewhere. *The study sets are not intuitive to access & help info does not explain them at all.

Thank you for your review. The Kanji introduced is based on grade school character progression. To 'choose which ones to practice' you need to use the 'Study Sets' feature. Here you can create your own custom groupings or choose existing 'JLPT level' or 'Remembering the Kanji'. Kanji Draw delivery is not random but spaced repetition learning.

The app has a robust catalogue, but it's poorly designed and annoying to use. Just one example: after you make a mistake, you can click a "Try Again" button to try again... but if you tap anywhere other than that button (including while the clunky animation hasn't finished showing the page yet), then you close the page and skip to the next character instead.

Works great in conjunction with other learning methods. Not always clear which definition some translations are going for. "Association" for example; we talking 'how things are associated with one another', or 'an Association that people can join'? Need to be able to read katakana and hiragana to learn kanji pronunciations. Duolingo now has improved lessons to improve this skill.
