Discovery Insure offers car insurance that rewards good driving.

Through our smartphone-enabled DQ-Track, which incorporates the Discovery Insure app and our Vitality Drive telematics device, Discovery Insure clients get real-time feedback on their driving behaviour, as well as other innovative features. Drive well to get up to R1,500 in fuel rewards every month.

To start earning your monthly fuel rewards, you must install a telematics device and link it to the Discovery Insure app. Then, activate your Vitality Drive card through our Discovery Insure app and swipe it whenever you fill up at BP or Shell. You can also get rewards on your Gautrain spend when you link your Gautrain at www.discovery.co.za.

Note: The Discovery Insure app uses location services. When you are not driving, it does not use GPS. It uses battery-efficient methods to automatically determine the start of a trip and stops detailed monitoring soon after a trip ends. The app is aware of your battery life and will not start monitoring a drive if the battery is low. Although the app has been designed to use your phone’s sensors in a battery-efficient way, running the app without a charger on long trips may drain the battery.

Review edited after interaction with Discovery. Does not show secondary driver any of the trips on the app even though they are apparently being logged with Discovery. As my husband and I share the vehicle and he is often away for weeks at a time I have no way to verify trips are logged or view them. App frequently crashes when opened leading me to not trust the emergency services function offered. Still an app that needs improvements.

Hi Colleen, thank you for taking our call. When you are listed as the secondary driver, the trips you take will be covered, which will help the primary driver to avoid losing points for uncovered trips. The driving behaviour of the secondary driver will count towards the primary driver’s daily Drive points balance.

This app is dreadful. Only one driver per car. Keeps complaining about phone settings. Everything must be on all the time - Bluetooth, GPS, mobile data, the lot. No power saving mode either, that is forbidden. To make it worse, the in car device is not really a proper tracker. At this I am stage I am so fed up that I am willing to change insurers just to get this nonsense off my phone and out of my life. The only setting that will improve it is uninstall.

This is the worst app I have ever used. The connectivity between my phone and the sensor is intermittent and sometimes it does not work at all. All my phone setting is correct. I reinstalled the app, enabled all the settings, restarted my phone several times and reboot the Vitality drive sensor. I am penalised with no recorded trips or uncovered trips. After many phone calls and emails to Discovery insure, no improvement. Great concept but poor execution.
