About this app

The GTC Showcase App by the Game Technology Center of ETH Zurich (Switzerland) provides news and demos of our research projects to the public.

Currently, the app contains an augmented reality game “Franz Carl Weber”, an augmented reality scavenger hunt “Expedition Solar System”, and our research prototype called “Augmented Creativity”.

Franz Carl Weber:

This project was developed as part of a collaboration between Franz Carl Weber and the ETH Game Technology Center. In this game, you can experience the Franz Carl Weber Christmas catalogue 2018 in augmented reality. On the title page, you meet Franzki, the cute bear and mascot of Franz Carl Weber. Help Franzki find his favorite toys in the catalogue and play with them. From cookie baking to bike racing, the four magic toys all come with a specific augmented reality mini-game to interact with Franzki.

Expedition Solar System:

This augmented reality scavenger hunt accompanies the special exhibition "Expedition Solar System" by focusTerra at ETH Zurich. The game lets you collect four objects for your space mission. Find them on the comic pages in the exhibition or in the accompanying book. Once you’ve found them all, take a photo with Marsty, the friendly Martian!

Augmented Creativity:

With Augmented Creativity, we aim to enhance creative and playful activities using augmented reality (AR). This app contains three modules. The AR coloring book module lets you color a character with regular paper and pens and then transfers the colors onto a 3D character shown on the display. The AR Band module allows you to playfully combine musical instruments and musical styles in AR to make your own arrangement of a song. Finally, the AR Museum module shows how AR technology can improve the interactivity of a museum experience. Through AR, you can interact with a painting, changing colors and shapes and hence create your own masterpiece!
