Get access to the ChefSteps' sous vide recipes and control the original Joule Sous Vide with the Joule App. From raw to ready, the app coaches you through the whole process, so cooking sous vide is simple. Just pick what you want to cook, and we’ll walk you through the rest.

The Joule App includes groundbreaking features like Visual Doneness, precise temperature control from anywhere, and a robust collection of recipes and cooking guides created by the ChefSteps team.

You tell us what you’re cooking, we tell you when it’s ready. Making a two-inch steak? Great. Just tap the Start button, and Joule will set a timer for perfect doneness. Get notified when your steak is ready—and we’ll also tell you how much longer it can stay in the water without overcooking.

Ratings and reviews

The app is has good cooking instructions that include short videos. It's very flaky, if I move to a different app it eventually loses connection to the stick but frequently has trouble reconnecting. If I reload the app it starts from the beginning losing the data from the initial cook time. It's not optimized for a tablet either. It works well with the basics like setting the temperature but after that it's best to set your own timer. Edited 9/28/24: dropped to 1 star

Since Breville took over Joule, the functionality of the app has steadily gone down hill. With the latest version, the app is incapable of sending instructions to the Joule after connection. It can connect initially, but after that, the app may not establish connection again. This points to a problem with the app and not with my WiFi and other myriad of Breville excuses. Instead of making excuses, hire professional developers and fire the Highschool dropouts that are managing your software.

Using the app is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it has more options than I'd ever use. On the other hand, it leaves out some pretty basic things. For example, for steak thickness, it's in quarter inch increments until one inch. Then it jumps to half inch. Why not have 1 1/4 and 1 3/4? If there's a 45 minute difference from one setting to the next in some cases, surely there's room for in between settings.
