The Java programming language can be used to create web applications, in addition to standard applications and applets. Java opens up the possibility of dynamically generating a website only upon request and providing users with current information tailored to their specific needs. Typical applications include online banking, online shops, conducting auctions, and displaying information (stock prices, weather forecasts, etc.). This course covers how such applications are implemented using special Java-based technologies (servlets, JSP (JavaServer Pages), JSF (JavaServer Faces), and Struts).
The course is aimed at web developers and programmers who want to acquire skills in the field of Java-based web applications. Solid Java knowledge as well as knowledge of HTML and website development are required.
After successfully completing the course, you should be able to develop small to medium-sized, complex Java web applications and deploy them on a server. You will have an understanding of the basic technologies and a solid and broad overview of advanced techniques such as the use of the JSF and Struts frameworks. From this point on, you should have no difficulty deepening your knowledge independently and using new frameworks.
The written exam can be taken online or at a FernUniversität Hagen campus location of your choice. Upon passing the exam, you will receive a university certificate. Students can also have earned ECTS credits certified for a Certificate of Basic Studies.
Further information can be found on the FernUniversität Hagen website under CeW (Center for Electronic Continuing Education).
