📖 The Book of Silence and the Etiquette of the Tongue by Ibn Abi al-Dunya 📖

By Abu Bakr ibn Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Sufyan ibn Qays al-Baghdadi, better known as Ibn Abi al-Dunya

Enjoy reading the book "Silence and the Etiquette of the Tongue" by Ibn Abi al-Dunya with the best offline app for books and stories, and many other features.

Imam Ibn Abi al-Dunya compiled this wonderful book, "Silence," and included discussions of many of the tongue's pitfalls, such as idle talk, obscenity, argumentation, backbiting, gossip, obscenity, vulgarity, lying, and the like. He also discussed the virtue of guarding the tongue, the encouragement of silence, truthfulness, and fulfilling promises.

In all of this, he cites texts with their chains of transmission, whether the texts are authentic hadiths or reports attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him). The book also includes citations of good and interesting poetry, a practice he has practiced in most of his books.

He also divided the hadiths in the book into chapters, assigning each chapter a title. He did not adhere to the authenticity of the texts he cited, relying on what scholars have established as a basis for referring them to someone who has attributed them to him.

Author:
Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr, Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Sufyan ibn Qays al-Baghdadi al-Qurashi, their client, a client of the Umayyads (208 AH - 281 AH), nicknamed Ibn Abi al-Dunya (his nickname overshadowed his real name, to the point that he became known by it). Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr was born in Baghdad in the early third century AH in the year 208 AH. He was an Arab historian and educator who taught the Abbasid Caliph al-Mu'tadid and his son al-Muktafi. Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir (may God have mercy on him) said of him in Al-Bidayah wa'l-Nihayah: "He is famous for his many beneficial, popular, and well-known works on spiritual matters and other matters. He was truthful, a memorizer, and a man of integrity."
