About this app

Did you know that you may be smoking up to 20 cigarettes per day, just for living in a big city?

Quite scary, right? That's what we thought when we first saw this article about the equivalence between air pollution and cigarette smoking. We were smoking between up to 8 cigarettes everyday without even touching one!

So we created this quick application for you to know how many cigarettes you are smoking in your city. You can share the number and help raise awareness about the risks of air pollution.

Cool app, but not accurate. App is reporting AQ at 98. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our air quality is between 150-190 depending on which part of town your are in. Even our news is reporting it in the 150's at least. It is only pulling data from one station, probably the state run one that isn't maintained properly. We pull our data from Purple Air's website/sensors locally. I love the concept. People here do not take this seriously, and this would be a good tool to drive the point home.

Shoot! This is a very good feedback, thanks. We currently use WAQI (https://waqi.info/) as our main backend, but we are constantly adding other data sources. PurpleAir is on our radar.

While I like the concept, because this is how a laymen can relate to the severity of the pollution. I have a suggestion though. To get more accurate daily, weekly and monthly numbers, just keep the aggregating for the pollution level data on the device for the current location (and any saved location in case user is interested in that) and use it to calculate the values.

OMG! This is a really good suggestion. We actually started implementing this feature (you can track this thread https://github.com/shootismoke/mobile-app/issues/24), but for technical stability reasons, we are not releasing it yet. But it will come very soon!

App stopped working and no longer loads or recognizes the many air quality monitoring stations around me anymore. Can't even search for stations in nearby locations - the app just keeps saying it can't find anything. Bizarre, since it worked fine for years previously. Haven't changed my device or had any firmware upgrades. Not sure what's up.
