Lichess is a free/libre, open-source chess application powered by volunteers and donations.
Today, Lichess users play more than five million games every day. Lichess is one of the most popular chess websites in the world while remaining 100% free.

The new application is still in beta. The following features are available right now:

- solve chess puzzles from a wide variety of themes, online or offline
- race against the clock in Puzzle Storm
- analyse your games with Stockfish 16 locally or Stockfish 16.1 on the server
- watch Lichess TV and online streamers
- use a chess clock for your over the board games

Ratings and reviews

Should be called lichess 2. This is a different app with different features than lichess. Study is missing but this one has theme based puzzles. Which is amazing btw. Untill this one gets the study feature You need both apps. UI is a bit nicer on beta. You can watch and play chess here as well as on the original app.

Much more comfortable and pleasing than the non-beta app for me, I love it. One thing I kindly request is if we could get a button to toggle on/off the arrows, in games especially. It's impossible to drag with two fingers without mistakes. Generally I hold one finger on a faraway square and draw arrows with another finger, but I can't count how many times I made the moves mistakenly because it didn't register first finger. Much love 🌸

Good for offline. One thing I would like for them to add is being able to change magnified pieces when dragging them and also being able to change board theme brightness like on the browser/ mobile browser version. Honestly, I'd prefer using the browser mobile version (mainly because I'm used to it), but otherwise, for an app, I find this to be pretty good.
