About this app

Learn SQL by running queries and seeing what they do. SQL Code Play brings guided tutorials, a local SQL editor and hands-on practice together, so students, beginners and developers can move from reading an example to experimenting with real tables.

WRITE, RUN AND EXPLORE
Open SQL Workspace, edit a query and tap Run. Switch between Code and Output to review the returned rows and columns. Result tables include row and column counts, and NULL values are clearly identified. Empty results, completed statements and query errors have their own messages to help you understand the outcome of each attempt.

Built-in sample data gives you a starting point. Explore employees, rooms, meetings and other practice tables without preparing a separate database. The database list shows table names and record counts. Tap a table to load a SELECT query, inspect its contents, then change the statement to answer a different question.

LEARN WITH GUIDED EXAMPLES
Browse tutorials by topic or search for a lesson. Filters help you focus on fundamentals, filtering, analysis and advanced SQL. Each lesson combines a query with a description, explanation and practice tips. Open the example in the workspace, adjust a value or clause and compare the output. Viewed and practiced indicators help you keep track of your learning.

Start with SELECT, WHERE, sorting and distinct values. Continue with INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE, table creation, constraints, joins, grouping and aggregate functions. Further examples cover subqueries, common table expressions, window functions, transactions, date operations and JSON queries. Choose the concept you need rather than following a fixed study session every time.

PRACTICE IN DIFFERENT WAYS
The Practice Hub connects three activities:
- SQL Lab: open ready-made query templates and explore tasks such as department summaries, high-value products, duplicate detection and data changes.
- Choose the Best Answer: select a missing SQL piece, check your answer and use hints and explanations to review the reasoning.
- Fill in the Blanks: complete queries by choosing the right tokens for missing keywords, operators and clauses.

Challenge progress is stored locally, with levels and missions unlocking as you work through the activities. Use a quick question to review syntax, or spend more time adapting a lab template in the editor.

KEEP YOUR CODING FLOW
Use undo and redo while editing. Find text or go to a line from the workspace menu. Open a .sql file from your device, save your query text or use Save As to keep another version. File saving preserves your script; it is separate from the practice database. Restore rebuilds the sample data when you want to start an experiment again.

The core workspace and bundled learning content work locally without a remote database server or cloud account. Advertising, purchases, store links and support actions may need an internet connection. The app includes ads, with an optional ad-removal subscription on Google Play.

Choose a system, light or dark appearance in Settings. SQL Code Play is a practical companion for learning relational database concepts, revisiting a clause and trying a small query away from your desktop. Read an example, make a change and use the result to guide your next step.

Uninstalled almost immediately as after using it for a few minutes, I had to close 2 full-screen pop-up ads in order to continue. The ad bar at the bottom is acceptable for a free app but full-screen pop-ups would make it much too annoying to even bother trying to use...
