Über diese App

Morse code is still the most efficient way ever devised to get a message through a bad channel, and it is still the language of the CW bands. This app teaches it properly, from the first two characters to a fist an experienced operator will respect.

Training uses the Koch method: characters arrive at full target speed from the very first lesson, two to begin with and one more each time your accuracy is high enough. Slow character speed teaches you to count dits, and that habit takes years to unlearn. Farnsworth spacing is what keeps the early lessons manageable, and both speeds are yours to set independently, using the standard ARRL formula.

Most Morse apps teach you to receive. This one also teaches you to send. Practise on a straight key or an iambic paddle and get an objective report on what your fist actually looks like: your effective speed, your dash to dit weighting against the ideal of 3 to 1, how consistent your character and word spacing is, and exactly which characters came out wrong. The difference between a wrong character and a correct character sent badly is one the app is careful to make, because they need different fixes.

The confusion matrix is where plateaus break. It records every substitution you make, so you can see that your whole problem is four specific character pairs rather than a vague sense of being stuck.

What is inside:

Koch training with accuracy-gated progression
Independent character speed and effective speed, from 5 to 40 WPM
Adjustable sidetone with a clean, click-free envelope
Copy drills, head copy drills, callsign drills and realistic QSO practice
Straight key and iambic sending practice with timing analysis
A confusion matrix that ranks the character pairs you mix up
Text to Morse and Morse to text, with audio, visual and flashlight output
A full reference: characters, prosigns, Q-codes, abbreviations and the RST system
The NATO phonetic alphabet with its own drill
Statistics, streaks and a daily goal
Light and dark themes, and an interface in several languages

The timing formulas the app uses are published on the About screen, because you should be able to check them.
