Hearts is a popular trick taking game with some similarities to Spades. The difference is that there are no trumps, no bidding, and the idea is to avoid taking tricks with penalty cards, such as any heart. Each player acts in their own interest.
The Deal
The deck is dealt out to 4 players, starting to the dealer's left, with each hand holding 13 cards. The deal rotates to the left on each new deal.
The Pass
After the deal, each player has an opportunity to pass 3 cards to another player in a fixed rotation: Pass Left, Pass Right, Pass Across, and No Pass.
The Play
Play starts with the player holding the deuce of clubs who leads it. Each player must follow suit if possible. The winner of the trick is the player with the highest card in the lead suit. The winning player then leads the next card.
Play continues until all cards have been played (13 tricks in all). When a player is void in the lead suit, they have the option of playing any card including a penalty card. The only exception to this is that no penalty card can be played on the first trick.
The Score
For each game variation there is a different but similar set of penalty and, possibly, bonus cards. These points are added to the player's total score and the game ends when one player reaches 100 points. The game winner is the player with the lowest score at this time.
There are 4 game variations in this App:
Black Lady: This is the original classic game of hearts. The Queen of Spades counts as 13 points and each heart counts one.
Black Maria: The Spade Ace counts as 7 points, the King as 10 and the Queen as 13. All hearts score one point.
Pink Lady: The Spade Queen and the Heart Queen count 13 points and each of the other hearts count one point.
Omnibus: The Spade Queen is 13 and the hearts are worth one, the same as the classic game but the Jack of Diamonds counts as a negative 10 points which effectively reduces the players score by that amount.
This game contains ads and I use Google Crashlytics to track app bugs. I've tried to keep the ads to a minimum. There is also an option to go ad free for a small fee.
I hope you enjoy this game. It is fun and fairly challenging and suitable for all ages.
Thank You,
