About this app

Murmur is an off-grid encrypted mesh messenger for nearby devices when mobile data or Wi-Fi is unavailable. Messages relay phone-to-phone over Bluetooth LE, with optional Wi-Fi Direct for larger exchanges.

Use Murmur to:

- Send encrypted messages without accounts or developer-run chat servers
- Relay messages across nearby devices through a delay-tolerant mesh
- Use Bluetooth LE as the primary radio and optional Wi-Fi Direct when enabled
- Share your Murmur address with trusted contacts
- Keep identity keys, contacts, and message history on your device
- Turn mesh relay on only when you need nearby communication
- Send feedback from the About Developer screen

How it works:

Murmur creates a private device identity and lets you share a public Murmur address. Messages are encrypted before entering the mesh. Nearby devices can help carry encrypted packets, but relaying devices cannot read the message contents.

Privacy:

Core chats are device-to-device and do not use a developer-run messaging server. Identity keys and message history are stored on your device. Optional in-app feedback sends your message, optional email, app version, Android version, and device model over HTTPS to Web3Forms so the developer can respond.

Permissions:

Bluetooth and nearby-device permissions are used for mesh discovery and message relay. Wi-Fi permissions support the optional Wi-Fi Direct transport. Notifications are used to show mesh status while relay is active. Internet access is used only for optional feedback and links opened by the user.
