Catadoc is a document scanner that reads what it scans, on your phone. Nothing gets uploaded.
Most scanner apps send what you scan to a server to make sense of it. Catadoc does that work on the device, so your documents stay where they are.
WHAT IT DOES
Point the camera at a document, or pick a photo you already have. On-device OCR reads it, and a few seconds later you have the useful parts of it: who it's from, what it cost, when it was issued, when it runs out. It handles passports, invoices, receipts, contracts, insurance papers and bills.
SEARCHING
Type what you'd say out loud. "Bills under 2000." "Passport expiring soon." Catadoc turns that into filters you can see and remove one at a time. The suggestions come out of your own library, so there is nothing to memorise.
IT SORTS ITSELF
Receipts group by shop. IDs group by person. If you want a shelf of your own, make one and put anything you like in it: a flat, a car, a tax year.
WHEN IT GETS SOMETHING WRONG
It will sometimes. Tap the value that's wrong and pick the right one straight off the scan. That correction sticks, and re-reading the document won't undo it. Fix a shop's receipt once and the next one from that shop arrives already filled in.
ONE PDF, UNDER THEIR SIZE LIMIT
Visa portals, landlords and HR departments all want a single PDF below some cap. Scan to PDF, choose the documents, put them in the order you want, set the limit, and Catadoc warns you before the quality drops too far. No more hunting for a "merge PDF online" site.
SMALLER THINGS
• Long-press a document to copy a number straight to the clipboard
• Favourites stay at the top
• Anything with an expiry date gets flagged on the front screen 60 days ahead
• Blurry scans get flagged while you still have the paper in your hand

ABOUT PRIVACY
Reading, searching and sharing all happen on the phone. The only thing the app ever sends is feedback, and only if you write some. Your library is encrypted, with the key held in the phone's own keystore. There is no account to make. Delete the app and all of it goes with it.

Getting a visa, where the portal wants a passport and an insurance letter in one PDF under 2 MB. Doing taxes, when every invoice needs a total and a date you can find again.
