Family GPS.me Locator via SMS is a family location app for phones. It helps parents and family members see a loved one's location on a map, check route history and stay connected when mobile internet is unreliable.

When internet is available, GPS.me works as a regular GPS family locator. When a phone loses data connection, the app can send a compact location update by SMS to a trusted number. This helps in places with weak mobile data, travel, rural areas or emergencies.

GPS.me is built for transparent family safety. Location sharing must be set up on the phone with the required Android permissions. The app is not a hidden tracker and does not read stored SMS history. SMS messages are used only for the configured location fallback, and carrier SMS charges may apply.

Location accuracy depends on GPS, Wi-Fi, cell network data, Android settings, device battery mode and local conditions. In some situations the app may show an approximate location or the last known location.

Ratings and reviews

Location notifications lag. I receive a notification that my kids have left school at the same time as when they arrive home (via car) and those notifications arrive a few minutes after they've been home. The time of each notification are the same as well meaning, there was a gap of activity that the app could not account for even with the settings set for updates every minute. Otherwise, it's a decent app.

Horrible app, bad interface, difficult to tell places people in the circle have been, it would be easier if it showed a list instead of how it is currently. Makes it too difficult to see history. Goes offline randomly for no reason, I've had to uninvite and re-invite more times than I'd like to admit. Life360 is SO much better!

My girlfriend and I use this app together. Though we rarely need it, we have it just in case of emergency. It has saved us a few times each. For example, she left work early one day and had to wait for me to come pick her up. She walked down to a convenience store, but her phone died before she was able to tell me where she had gone. After driving almost an hour I called to let her know I was close, but obviously realized her phone had died. Her last GPS ping is where I went to go look for her and there she was. It had pinged in the store, and I found her outside nearby. Saved her from having to walk to who knows where to find a phone to use. Other cases were situations that could have been very bad and this app helped us locate each other. I am giving 5 stars because it deserves it, but I have had some problems. Firstly, when target is in transit it doesn't like to keep up, often giving the LBS "no gps" circle. Second, when setting up I always set both phones to refresh every 1 minute. Sometimes that works just fine, other times it has problems maintaining a connection, and sometimes I am waiting for her location to refresh 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, sometimes longer. I know many issues are connection related, but if there is any way to improve the experience for us it would be awesome. I have reccommend this to friends and family when they ask what we use and so far no complaints! My mom and dad even got the premium version. Thank you for everything! Keep up the good work.
