About this app

Light Filter lays a warm, adjustable layer over everything on your screen. Use it to take the glare off a bright display at night, to keep reading comfortable in a dark room, or simply to go darker than your phone's brightness slider allows on its own.

TWO LAYERS, TWO SLIDERS

Most screen filters give you a single control. Light Filter gives you two, and they work independently.

Color intensity sets how strongly the tint lands, from a barely there warmth up to deep amber.

Dimming darkens the screen on top of that, and it keeps going after your phone's own brightness is already at its minimum.

Because the two are separate, you can have warm but bright, neutral but very dark, or anything in between. Turning one up never forces the other.

SIX PRESETS TO START FROM

One tap sets a color and both levels together. They run from gentlest to strongest:

Blue light, a light amber warmth for everyday evening use
Reading, a soft sepia that stays comfortable over long text
Night shift, a stronger orange for later in the evening
Candle, warm and noticeably dimmer
Bedtime, a deep ember for the last hour before sleep
Dim only, no color at all, just darkness

Nudge either slider afterwards and the app simply shows Custom. Nothing is locked, and you can always come back to a preset.

ELEVEN FILTER COLORS

Amber, orange, ember, crimson, sepia, rose, moss, teal, ocean and violet, plus a neutral option with no tint at all that leaves only the dimming layer working.

SEE IT BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON

A live preview on the home screen shows a piece of bright content with your exact settings applied, using the same math the real filter uses. Dial it in first, then switch it on and get what you saw.

TURN IT OFF FROM ANYWHERE

The filter sits over every app, so there is always an easy way out of it:

A Quick Settings tile toggles the filter straight from the shade
An ongoing notification carries a Turn off button

Both stay readable and reachable no matter how dark you have made the screen.

SETTINGS

Choose whether the filter comes back on its own after your phone restarts. See the status of the two permissions the app relies on at a glance, and jump straight to them. Add the Quick Settings tile in one tap. Reset the filter to its starting look whenever you want.

QUIET AND PRIVATE

No account and no sign-in. No ads. The app does not request internet access at all, so nothing about how you use it can leave your phone.

GOOD TO KNOW

Android always draws the notification shade and system dialogs above other apps, so those stay untinted while the filter is running. That is how the platform works, and it is also what keeps the Turn off button readable when you have the screen at its darkest.

To cover other apps, the filter needs the "display over other apps" permission. Android asks you for it once, on the screen where you first switch the filter on. The notification permission is optional, and the filter still runs without it.

Light Filter is a comfort tool for your eyes at night. It changes how your screen looks, and nothing else.
Warm the screen and dim it past your phone's lowest brightness, over every app.
