Music Theory - Chords in Keys is a music theory app that will train you to think your way around musical keys. With practice you will be able to identify all the three and four-note chords within all 15 major, natural minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales. This is an extremely useful ability for any musician.
To use this music theory app, choose the scale that you would like to work on (major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor) and the chord types (triads or sevenths). The app will then display a key and a Roman numeral chord number. You then have to work out what the chord within your chosen scale.
This music theory app will also display the notes within each chord and the notes within each scale, allowing you to test your musical knowledge even further, or assist you in working out the correct answers.
This latest version also offers a 'Play chord' option so you can hear the chord you are being tested on. The tonic chord of the current scale is played, followed by the chord in question, followed by the tonic chord again. This way you not only learn music theory but also develop your aural skills at the same time.
A summary of all the relevant theory of chords within each of the scales is included in the help pages.
