How it works: the app sets up a local VPN with Android VpnService and only specifies the DNS server.
In normal mode, no route is added and traffic does not go through the app — the internet goes directly over Wi-Fi/mobile network, only the DNS settings change. In DoT/DoH mode, only DNS requests go through the app to be encrypted; all other traffic still goes directly.
Hive DNS is not a VPN in the usual sense: it does not hide your IP address and does not encrypt the rest of the traffic.
Privacy: no data is collected and sent to us. Settings and statistics remain only on the device. No advertising SDK, analytics or third-party libraries.
Note: Smartbee (172.16.47.58) is an internal network server and works only on the Smartbee network; other providers work everywhere.
