About this app

Tainá is GainForest's mobile app for exploring, documenting, and sharing biodiversity through open environmental data and AI.

Discover observations from communities around the world in a social feed inspired by open social networks, identify plants and animals using an on-device AI vision model, and explore biodiversity records stored on the AT Protocol. AI inference runs directly on your device, allowing fast species suggestions while helping preserve privacy.

With Tainá you can:

Capture biodiversity observations with photos and location.
Receive instant AI-assisted species identification on your device.
Browse a social feed of observations from the GainForest ecosystem.
Explore environmental data published through the open AT Protocol.
Contribute to community-driven biodiversity monitoring.
Access transparent, open, and interoperable environmental records.

Tainá is built around open infrastructure and public data standards. Instead of relying on proprietary mobile services, it connects to the same public infrastructure that powers the GainForest web platform, making environmental information more accessible, verifiable, and reusable.

Whether you're a community monitor, researcher, conservation practitioner, or nature enthusiast, Tainá provides an easy way to document biodiversity, discover environmental knowledge, and participate in open conservation efforts.

Together, we're building a more open, transparent, and collaborative future for biodiversity monitoring

What’s new

• Your captured observations are now protected against being lost if the app or phone shuts down unexpectedly
• Deleting an observation now always removes it from the network, even if you were offline at the time
• You no longer get signed out when the connection is unstable, so background uploads keep running
• Scientific name is now optional when editing an observation - a common name alone is enough
• Clearer messages while waiting for a connection
