Kata Spinner is a frictionless daily-practice companion for karateka. Open the app, tap Spin, and get a random kata to train. Mark it done, and see your practice history build up over time.
Built for solo training. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no internet required.
— THE CORE LOOP —
• Spin → a random kata from your enabled list
• Train it
• Mark as Done — or Spin Again for another
That's it. The whole flow takes seconds.
— BUILT FOR REAL TRAINING —
• 27 Shotokan katas included, from Taikyoku Shodan through Unsu and Wankan
• Names shown in Romaji with Japanese kanji underneath; tap for the English translation
• Filter the spin pool by your rank (10th kyu through Shodan+) so the app only picks katas in your current syllabus
• Disable any kata you don't yet know — the spinner will skip it
• Optional training modes: Normal, Slow, Fast, or Backwards — randomized alongside the kata when you want variety
— DAILY PROGRESS, AT A GLANCE —
• "X / Y done today" counter on the home screen
• Today's practiced katas shown as a quick strip
• When you've completed every kata in your pool, a one-tap "Include completed" toggle lets you keep going — the app never locks you out
— PRACTICE HISTORY —
• Month calendar view shows every day you trained, with the count of katas practiced
• Tap any day to expand the list of katas and training modes used that day
• Read-only and private — your history lives on your device
— OFFLINE-FIRST AND PRIVATE BY DESIGN —
• No account required, ever
• No network calls, no analytics, no crash reporting cloud
• No ads, no in-app purchases
• Your practice data stays on your device
— WHO IT'S FOR —
Karate practitioners — initially Shotokan — who want a low-friction nudge to practice at least one kata a day, and a quiet record of the work they've put in. If you've ever stood in your dojo or living room thinking "which kata today?", this is for you.
Spin. Train. Log. Repeat.
