About this app

PatchForge is a design wall for pieced quilts. Lay out classic blocks, try your fabrics across the whole quilt, then let PatchForge work out every cut and how much fabric to buy.

DESIGN ON THE WALL
• Tap to place blocks, tap again to turn them, long press to mirror or recolour one block
• Fill the wall, alternate two blocks, undo any step
• Sashing with cornerstones, borders and binding, all drawn to scale
• Change the block size, the number of blocks and the units (inches or centimetres)

REAL BLOCKS, DRAFTED PROPERLY
Every block is drawn from the units you actually sew: squares, rectangles, half square triangles, quarter square triangles and flying geese. Free includes Nine Patch, Four Patch, Rail Fence, Half Square Triangle, Pinwheel, Friendship Star, Flying Geese, Hourglass, Shoofly, Churn Dash, Log Cabin and Sawtooth Star.

THE CUTTING PLAN
• Fabric to buy for each fabric, rounded up to 1/8 yd or 10 cm, with extra you choose
• Strip by strip instructions: cut 3 strips 3 7/8 in x WOF, then 24 squares, each cut once on the diagonal
• Rotary cutting sizes with the right seam allowance (7/8 in for half square triangles, 1 1/4 in for quarter square triangles)
• A picture of every strip so you can see where each piece comes from
• Borders, binding strips, backing panels and batting size
• Cutting for one block, for when you sew a block at a time
• A warning when a block size puts seams between ruler lines, with sizes that work
