Turn any photo into a string art piece you can make on a real board. StringForge works out where the nails go and the order to wind one long thread around them, so a face, a pet or a favourite object appears from the crossings.

HOW IT WORKS
• Pick a photo or take one, then drag and zoom so the face fills the circle.
• Tune brightness, contrast and detail, and see the tones the thread will aim for.
• Choose your board: 150 to 360 nails, a 30 to 80 cm circle, fine, medium or heavy thread.
• Tap Make plan and watch the thread being laid on screen. The preview uses your real thread thickness and board size, so it shows what you will actually get.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO MAKE IT
• A true size nail template to print on A4 or US Letter, split over sheets with alignment marks, numbered nails and a 100 mm check bar.
• A shopping list: board size, nail count and spacing, and how many metres of thread to buy.
• Follow the steps nail by nail: big numbers, the next few nails, the thread lit up on a small board, and your place saved. Tap the screen or press volume up for the next nail, so your hands stay on the thread.
• Fewer threads if you want a quicker, lighter piece.
