The wolf, also known as the gray wolf or gray wolf, is a large dog native to Eurasia and North America. Over thirty subspecies of canine lupus have been identified, and gray wolves, as they are generally understood, include non-domestic/feral subspecies. The wolf is the largest member of the canida family. It is also distinguished from other canis species by its less prominent ears and snout, as well as its shorter torso and longer tail. However, the wolf is closely related enough to smaller canis species, such as the coyote and golden jackal, to produce fertile hybrids with them. The fur of the white, brown, gray, and black banded wolf is usually mottled, although the subspecies in the Arctic may be nearly all white.
