Most sudoku apps drop a number into the square and move on. Sudoku Origin explains the move: which row, which column, which box, and which candidate can be eliminated. You will pick up naked pairs, hidden singles, pointing pairs, and eventually X-Wing and Swordfish, simply by playing. That is how you get better at sudoku instead of getting rescued by it.

HOW DO YOU PLAY SUDOKU?
Fill the 9x9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the numbers 1 to 9 exactly once. That is the entire rule. If you are new to sudoku, start on easy sudoku and leave auto-check switched on; it tells you straight away when a number cannot be correct.

IS SUDOKU GOOD FOR YOUR BRAIN?
Sudoku is a logic puzzle, not a maths test. It asks you to hold possibilities in mind, eliminate them one by one, and stay focused. Many players treat a daily sudoku as brain training, the same way other people treat a crossword.
