Compass with degree display
The compass shows your current heading in degrees and the matching direction, such as north, east, south or west. The large display makes it easy to read your direction quickly, even outdoors.
Camera compass view
Use the camera view to see the direction you are facing directly on top of the camera preview. This can be useful when checking the direction of a road, building, landscape, antenna, solar panel or outdoor target.
Map and saved places
The map view can show your current location, your phone direction and a saved place. You can save your current position and later see the saved place on the map, including distance and direction from your current location.
Important: The map requires an active internet connection to be displayed. Compass functions, saved direction information and locally stored place data may still be available, but online map tiles can only be loaded when your device is connected to the internet.
Save direction or save place
The app separates two useful functions:
• Save direction: stores the current compass heading, for example an orientation or bearing.
• Save place: stores your current GPS location, for example your car, starting point, campsite or meeting place.
A saved direction is not the same as a saved location. This helps avoid confusion and makes the app more reliable for everyday use.
Sensor quality and magnetic field
Compass accuracy depends on the sensors in your device and your surroundings. Metal objects, magnetic cases, cars, speakers or other electronic devices can affect the compass. The app shows sensor quality and magnetic field strength to help you understand when the compass may need calibration.
If accuracy is low, move your phone in a figure-eight motion and keep it away from magnetic interference.
Privacy-friendly and simple
Compass: Map & Camera is designed as a practical utility app. Saved directions and saved places are stored locally on your device. The location feature is optional, and the compass can be used without enabling location access.
Useful for
• Walking and outdoor orientation
• Checking direction and heading
• Finding a saved place
• Saving your parking location
• Hiking, camping and travel
• Camera-based direction checks
• Viewing GPS coordinates
• Measuring magnetic field strength
• Everyday navigation assistance
Notes
Compass accuracy may vary depending on your device sensors, magnetic interference and calibration state. GPS accuracy depends on your device, signal quality and environment. The app is not intended to replace professional navigation, safety equipment or surveying tools
