PRACTICE THE EXAM'S DWV SIZING SECTION
Journeyman and master exams are lost on the sizing questions — reviewers describe "several questions on figuring fixture units, venting, and sizing pipe." The Practice tab holds 17 worked problems covering exactly that: DFU tallies, horizontal branch and stack sizing, vent sizing with developed length, and how far a trap can be from its vent. Work each one on paper first, then reveal the solution. Every step shows the governing DFU, the table it comes from, and the IPC 2021 section — Table 709.1 for fixture units, Table 710.1 for branches and stacks, Table 906.1 for vents, Table 909.1 for trap arms.

Practice-test apps tell you whether you were right. This shows why the answer is the answer, so you can reproduce it in the exam room with nothing but your code book and the index.

One solved problem, the way the app walks it: a basement bath — WC, lav, and shower count once as a bathroom group at 5 DFU per Table 709.1; tie in the kitchen sink for 7 DFU; the branch lands at 3 in because a branch serving a water closet is never smaller, per Section 710; the vent is sized from the stack and its developed length per Table 906.1; and each trap arm is checked against its maximum run to the vent per Table 909.1.

The practice problems are solved by the same sizing engine you use on real work:

• Out-of-scope work is refused, not approximated: wet venting, circuit venting, combination waste-and-vent, air admittance valves, storm drainage, and water supply sizing are outside this version. Out-of-range loads get a stop and a "consult your AHJ or an engineer" — never an extrapolated number.

SCOPE
Basis: the fixture-unit sizing method of the 2021 International Plumbing Code (IPC), Sections 709, 710, 906, and 909. Every screen and export is labeled "IPC 2021 method." Governing values are shown with their section citation and are editable — confirm them against the code your jurisdiction and your exam have adopted before you rely on a result.
