About this app

reSpoke reads your text messages and chat notifications aloud, hands-free, so you never have to look at your phone.

It's a small floating button that sits on top of Google Maps, Waze, or whatever nav app you already use. Your map keeps running underneath. reSpoke only handles the audio.

WHY A FLOATING BUTTON

Most driving-mode apps want the whole screen. They replace your navigation with their own dashboard, which means learning a second maps app you never asked for. reSpoke stays out of that. Drag the button wherever it suits you and tap it for mute, skip and replay. When a message arrives, reSpoke lowers your nav audio, reads the message, then hands the audio back. It announces who the message is from before reading it, so you know whether it matters without touching anything.

THREE MODES

🏍 Riders — the original use case. Bluetooth helmet intercoms like Cardo and Sena. Completely hands-free — audio only, nothing to look at.
🚗 Drivers — commuting or rideshare, using your car's Bluetooth or a phone mount.
🚶 Walking and cycling — earbuds, or the phone in your pocket.

You pick a default during setup. Pro adds per-device switching: whichever Bluetooth device connected most recently decides the mode, so your helmet gets Riders and your car kit gets Drivers without you touching anything.

PRIVACY

Nothing leaves your phone. Notification text is processed on the device and spoken by Android's built-in text-to-speech (TTS) engine. There's no server to upload it to, because reSpoke doesn't have a backend.

reSpoke never asks for SMS permission. It reads incoming notifications through Android's NotificationListener, so it can't reach your message history or your contacts.

Analytics are anonymous and can be switched off. Firebase Analytics records screen views and button taps (settings opened, Pro purchased) so we can see which features people actually use. Message text, sender names and conversation content are never collected. Advertising ID collection is disabled. Crashlytics sends crash reports so we can fix bugs. All of it toggles off in Settings → Analytics.

No ads.

PERMISSIONS, AND WHAT EACH ONE IS FOR

• Notification access, to see incoming messages. You grant this manually through a system settings page, and it doesn't cover past notifications or SMS history.
• Display over other apps, so the floating control can sit above your map.
• Foreground service, so reading continues with the screen off. You'll see a persistent notification while it runs.
• Bluetooth, for automatic start when a helmet or car kit connects (Pro).
• Battery optimization exemption, so Android doesn't pause the reader mid-ride.

WHAT IT ISN'T

This isn't Android Auto. Android Auto projects onto a car head unit; reSpoke draws on your phone's own screen, which is why it works on a motorcycle, in a car with no head unit, or on foot.

It doesn't replace your navigation app. It layers on top of it.

It won't transcribe a spoken reply or send voice messages. Auto-replies are canned text only.

Built by riders, for riders, drivers and anyone else who'd rather not stop to check their phone.
Reads texts and messages aloud, hands-free, while you ride, drive or walk.
