About this app

PsiCovid is an application for improving your emotional health that gives access to psychological help resources. It has been designed by a group of psychologists, psychiatrists and researchers, and aims to take care of the mental health of health professionals on the front line against COVID-19. Includes content and tools to motivate self-management and emotional management, anytime, anywhere. It is based on cognitive-behavioral psychology and mindfulness.

PsiCovid is a mobile application that has a double objective:
1. Offer psychological help resources to protect the mental health of health professionals who are in a vulnerable situation as a result of the performance of their work in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Evaluate some aspects of the state of mental health and the use and acceptance of users through questionnaires, with prior informed consent, to carry out a more in-depth evaluation of the application that allows us to improve and optimize its impact.

The application has shown a high degree of acceptance by users who have already used it, and has the potential to produce short-term improvements in certain aspects of mental health in certain groups of health workers (its effectiveness has been demonstrated when used together with psychopharmacological or psychotherapy treatment).

PsiCovid is structured in five modules in which you will find information and practical tools on training and emotional management, mindfulness, healthy lifestyles, work stress, burnout and social support.
The PsiCovidApp research team has developed this application after identifying the potential of providing psychological care to health workers during an epidemic and the lack of interventions or strategies aimed at this end.
PsiCovid has been developed within the framework of the COVID-19/06 research project “Effectiveness of an intervention based on the use of mobile technology for the prevention of mental health problems in health professionals in the first line of care for patients with COVID-19 ", Funded by the Illes Balears Health Research Institute (IdISBa) and the project" Development, evaluation and large-scale implementation of PSICOVIDAPP, a psychoeducational intervention through a mobile application to mitigate mental health problems in health professionals acting against the COVID-19 pandemic ”of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry (SEP) together with the Spanish Foundation of Psychiatry and Mental Health (FEPSM) and the Spanish Society of Biological Psychiatry (SEPB) and in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Foundation) in the Researchers from IdISBa, the Andalusian School of Public Health, the Hospital Universitari de Son Espases, the Hospital de la Santa Cre u i Sant Pau, the Miguel Servet University Hospital and the University of the Balearic Islands; and in collaboration with the Apploading company.
The effectiveness of PsiCovid has been evaluated through a randomized controlled and blinded clinical trial, with a two-week follow-up in which 482 health professionals from all over Spain participated (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04393818). You can review the study protocol here: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.11.03.20225102v1.

In this trial, psychological variables were evaluated through validated questionnaires such as depression, anxiety and stress (DASS21), post-traumatic stress (DTS), burnout (MBI-HSS), insomnia (ISI) and self-efficacy (GSES-10).
