About this app

Readfold is a quiet place to read the PDFs you already have.

Import a file and it lands on a shelf. Open it and it remembers where you stopped. That is the whole idea — no account to create, no library to sync, no feed to scroll past first.

A SHELF, NOT A FILE MANAGER

Imported books sit on a bookshelf with a cover rendered from their first page, and a progress bar under each one. Search across titles, authors, and the original file name to narrow a full shelf as you type. Rename anything whose PDF metadata is unhelpful, reset a book's progress to start again, or remove a book you are finished with — removing it from Readfold never touches the original file you imported from.

READING

Turn pages with a tap or a swipe. Drag and the page folds under your finger, tracks it, and can be released, reversed, or caught mid-turn — or choose a plain slide or fade instead if that is not for you. Tint the page sepia or invert it for night, and dim the screen past what Android's own brightness slider allows for reading in the dark. Bookmark any page, see your marks as ticks along the page slider, and jump back to any of them. Your position in every book is saved as you go.

Some PDFs are typeset for paper, not for a phone. For those, the reflowed-text view pulls the text layer out and lays it out for the screen you are actually holding, at a size you pick. It is a convenience rather than a facsimile — layout, tables, and images may be altered or dropped, and a scanned PDF with no text layer has nothing to reflow — but for a wall of small print it is the difference between reading and squinting.

A READING RECORD, KEPT TO YOURSELF

Readfold counts pages turned, time spent reading, days read, and your current and longest streak, and shows them per book and across the last seven days. It is there to be glanced at, not to nag you: there are no notifications, no goals to fail, and no leaderboard. Clear the statistics whenever you like — books and bookmarks are untouched when you do.

COMPLETELY OFFLINE, BY CONSTRUCTION

Readfold declares no Android permissions at all — not even internet access. It is not that the app chooses not to send your reading anywhere; it has no way to. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.

Books are imported through Android's own document picker, so the app never gets permission to browse your storage. Everything Readfold keeps — your books, covers, bookmarks, reading positions, preferences, and statistics — lives in its private storage on your device, and uninstalling takes all of it with it.

The trade-off is honest and worth stating plainly: because nothing is on a server, nothing can be restored for you. Your library lives on this device.

NO PURCHASES

Readfold is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no paid tier holding features back.

WHAT IT IS NOT

Readfold does not find or download books for you, and it opens PDF files only. Bring your own documents — a manual, a paper, a novel you own, the report you have been avoiding.

Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy are readable inside the app, from the start menu, before you agree to anything.
