About this app
Famly is a family tree for your own device. No account, no sign-in, no cloud – everything stays on your phone until you decide to pass something on.
THE TREE
The tree starts from you: children below, parents and grandparents above. Everything else unfolds when you need it, so even a large family stays readable. One tap moves another person to the centre and shows the tree from there.
The lines carry meaning: paternal line, maternal line, descendants and people who married in are told apart by colour.
FILL THE GAPS WHERE THEY ARE
Above every person without parents sits a button to add them. That way you fill the tree exactly where something is missing, instead of hunting through drop-down lists. Parents, partners, siblings and children can also be linked from the detail view, with search across all your records.
A view-only mode protects against accidental changes. Editing is something you switch on deliberately.
INCOMPLETE DATES ARE NORMAL
For older generations you often know only the year, sometimes nothing at all. Famly accepts full dates, month and year, year only, or nothing – and marks estimates as "about 1898". Nobody should have to invent a day just to fill a field.
SHARE AND COMPARE
Send your records as a file – by message, mail, however you like. Whoever opens it sees the tree without their own being touched.
When an extended version comes back, Famly shows you what differs: newly added people, changed details side by side. You apply what you want, entry by entry. Nothing is ever deleted in the process.
BACKUP AND EXPORT
A backup file can be restored in full. For the way out to other genealogy programs there is GEDCOM export.
PRIVACY
Famly collects no data, shows no ads and needs no permissions at all – not even internet access. There is no server that could hold anything of yours.
WHAT FAMLY CANNOT DO (YET)
No real-time collaboration – exchange happens through files. No photos, no source management, no import from other programs. Multiple marriages are stored but drawn only once in the tree.
