Runline is a compartment-based logic puzzle: a grid where some cells are permanently blacked out, and the white cells left behind form short runs called compartments. Fill every white cell with a digit so two rules hold everywhere at once — and the grid clicks into place.

THE TWO RULES
1. No repeats. Just like a number grid you already know, no digit may repeat anywhere in the same row or the same column among the white cells — even across different compartments.
2. Every compartment is a straight. Each unbroken run of white cells, whether it's running across a row or down a column, must end up holding a set of consecutive digits in any order. A four-cell compartment might land on 3-4-5-6 in whatever arrangement you like — but never with a gap, and never with a repeat.

Line up both rules across the whole board and the puzzle is solved.

PICK YOUR GRID
- 6x6 — a compact board with a couple of starting digits to anchor your reasoning.
- 7x7 — the sweet spot: enough given digits to trust, enough grid to think.
- 8x8 — a full board with fewer givens, built for players who want to work for it.

Runline builds a fresh, valid board behind the scenes for every new game and checks that the digits you're given are actually enough to solve it before handing it to you — no guessing games, no unsolvable grids.

SEE THE STRUCTURE, NOT JUST THE NUMBERS
Tap any open cell and Runline highlights exactly which cells it has to form a straight with — the live compartment it belongs to, both across and down — so you can reason about a run without losing track of where it starts and ends. A warm parchment palette, deep graphite ink, and a signal-red accent keep the board easy to read at a glance.

STAY ON TRACK
- Live violation highlighting flags a repeated digit in red the moment it happens, and flags a compartment that's full but not a proper straight in amber — two different problems, two different colors.
- A running timer and mistake counter track how clean your solve is.
- Stuck? Hint reveals one correct cell — mistakes and hints are both tracked, never punished.

LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE
The Learn tab walks through both rules in plain language and includes a quick "is this a straight?" practice puzzle: look at a handful of digits pulled from one compartment, decide whether they form a valid run, and build your intuition before tackling a full grid.
