About this app

The 30 Plants a Week concept is based on research showing that eating a diverse range of plant-based foods supports a healthy gut microbiome. The idea comes from the American Gut Project, which found that people who eat at least 30 different plant foods per week have a more diverse and resilient gut microbiome than those who eat fewer.
This app will help you rise to the challenge of eating 30 or more plants every week.

What Counts as a Plant?
Anything that comes from a plant-based source counts! This includes:
🌱 Vegetables – e.g., spinach, carrots, cabbage
🍎 Fruits – e.g., apples, bananas, blueberries
🌾 Whole grains – e.g., quinoa, brown rice, oats
🥜 Nuts & Seeds – e.g., almonds, chia seeds, pecans
🫘 Legumes – e.g., lentils, chickpeas, peas
🧂 Herbs & Spices – e.g., basil, turmeric, cinnamon

Why Aim for 30 Plants?
Boosts Gut Health 🦠 – More fiber and polyphenols feed good gut bacteria.
Improves Digestion 🥦 – A diverse gut microbiome can help digestion and reduce bloating.
Strengthens Immunity 🛡️ – A healthy gut supports your immune system.
Supports Mental Health 🧠 – Gut health is linked to mood and brain function.
Encourages Variety 🌈 – Eating different plants prevents diet boredom and ensures a wide range of nutrients.

How does the App Work?
Simply type in the name of the plant and the app will automatically check that 1) it is indeed a plant (so don’t try adding that Chocolate Orange!) and 2) which of the six categories shown above it falls into. You can swipe back through the weeks to see what you’ve added in the past. Plus there’s a page that gives you insights, based on the data you’ve added, into your diet including key metrics.

All in all, the 30 plants challenge is a great way to improve your health and the 30 Plants Tracker makes it fun and easy to keep an eye on your progress.
