Battery killer Nice app but it drains the battery faster than an elephant empties a fish bowl, even when it's not playing. I was on, but not playing when I was charging over night but the charge only went up to 55% and the phone was very hot. The battery has dropped 5% just wile typing this short review (not playing a audio book). Ivm not sure if I will finish my rental before uninstalling this app.
Had to rewrite my review. Fine for iPad and computer, but I own an Android and that is where I listen to most books. On Andriod, it is a resource hog, drains my battery in 4 hours WITHOUT USING THA APP! Looked at battery usage and it was 50% of all apps! App stops playing and I can't quickly fix it while driving. According to Support this is due to a known Bluetooth issue. Perfect. Since I am an Android user, this is the last book I will rent, I can't get past chapter 2.
Disappointing. I prefer Audible. Downpour tricks you into thinking it's cheaper than audible, but it's not. It is $13/month, $2 cheaper than Audible, but so many of the books cost 2 credits when the same book is only 1 credit at Audible. You're paying more. The app interface is basic, you can't search the store which is a pain. The selection isn't very good either. It's a rip off. Go to the library or go to Audible.
Rented books stop playing after a minute or two via Bluetooth in my car. I have to restart the app or play an purchased book for awhile and then switch back. But this only works for another minute or two. Very annoying. Purchased books play just fine.
Love Downpour The selection of audio books and their quality is great. Price is fair with a subscription. App could use some improvements, but it syncs and works fine. Plus the audio books being DRM-free means I'm not forced into any particular app. Only thing that bothers me is that some books I wanted have region restrictions.
Had to deal with Downpour bug by installing another app. There's a bug with downpour where it skips the last 10 or 15 seconds of a track and jumps to the next one, IF the screen is dark at the time. It doesn't do this if the screen is lit up, so you need something like Stay Alive to keep the screen lit up while Downpour is active. (It also keeps working if some other app is keeping the screen lit up (like Google Maps).) It still gets a four, despite this problem, because I think DRM-free apps need the support.
