Runa is a personal journal built for people who value privacy, beauty, and ownership of their own memories.
There are no accounts, no Runa servers, and no tracking of any kind. Your journal lives on your device and optionally on your own Nextcloud server, where you are always in full control.
Write the moment. Or the memory.
Every entry starts with today's date and time, already filled in. But you can change it; because some memories arrive late. Jot down something that happened years ago, or a thought you've been carrying for days. Add a title, write as much or as little as you want, and attach photos from your gallery or taken in the moment.
Read your life, grouped by time.
The Read tab organizes your entries by year, month, and day — the way a real journal feels. Scroll back through your days, search for a specific memory, and tap any entry to open it in a full nostalgic view with a generous layout, your photos displayed as a swipeable gallery, and the exact location where you wrote it.
Pin your memories on a map.
When you add a location to an entry, it appears as a pin on your personal map. See the places your life has taken you; tapping any pin opens the entry attached to it.
Your data, your way.
Sync to your own Nextcloud; entries and photos are stored in organized date folders (Runa/YYYY/MM/DD/)
Works fully offline and locally, no cloud required
Export your entire journal, all entries and photos, as a ZIP file at any time
Biometric app lock for extra privacy
Designed with care.
Runa is built around warmth and nostalgia. A deep inkwell background, Dusk Rose accents, and DM Serif Display typography give every screen the feeling of opening an old book. Light and dark modes are both first-class citizens, toggled instantly from the top bar.
Runa is free, open source (GPLv3), and part of the BARBURAS suite of privacy-first Android apps. No ads, no subscriptions, no compromises.
