it looked like it would be good so I wanted to give it a try- but theres no way to see questions in English writing instead of Katakana/Kanji/ even if you choose the beginner level, and theres not a way to skip past something you already know, you have to manually click through all the slides and answer the questions you already know the answers too. Also basically everything besides the basic courses are locked behind a paywall.

While I really like this app, I cannot give it full stars because of a BAFFLING choice to not have a section-by-section way to review vocab. A list of vocab or flash cards would be great, but you will need to make those yourself, unfortunately. EDIT: This is an especially big deal for those not learning a language with a similar alphabet to English (eg Spanish, German, French). For instance, Japanese learners learning the kanji for vocabulary may not be comfortable writing the kanji accurately.

Overall the lessons seem good. There are a number of technical difficulties I am having that make it extremely hard to recommend, especially since I had to pay for access past the first 4 or so lessons. App does not recognize speech well, so when doing speaking exercises, I may have to say it 10 or so times, but even then it may not work. Other issue is I switched phones, and Bunpo does not track progress across them, so streak was lost.
