About this app

Five strings, five pegs, and one of them sits halfway up the neck. Banjo shows you the
headstock, marks the peg for the string you are tuning, the fifth-string drone included, and
tells you exactly how far off it is. Retune to double C or sawmill and it still points at the
right peg. Play a tenor or a plectrum banjo? Pick its tuning and the headstock turns into the
four-peg one.

Then it hands you the instrument. In Simulation the banjo is on your screen: pick a single
string, or strum across all five.

• Tuner: all five strings, peg by peg, with a live needle that never flashes "in tune" early
• Nine tunings: open G, double C, sawmill, open D, double D and drop C on the 5-string, plus
tenor (CGDA and Irish GDAE) and plectrum (CGBD)
• Simulation: a banjo you can play, pick one string or strum all five
• Chords: 168 chords (12 roots, 14 types), up to three fingerings each, drawn for whichever of
the nine tunings you are in
• Learn: eight courses (64 lessons): four for the 5-string, from your first roll through
clawhammer, melodic and single-string style, and four for the tenor banjo; plus ten practice drills: ear training, melodic dictation, fretboard,
intervals, chord changes, timing, rhythm, scales, sight reading and strumming
• Tools: metronome, drone, scales, chord and scale, circle of fifths, capo and transpose,
practice recorder, overtones and String Health
• 12 color palettes, light and dark themes, left-handed mode

Everything is included: no subscription, no account and nothing to buy inside the app. It all
works offline, and Banjo collects no data: see the Data safety section below.

What’s new

Banjo is now free to download. The tuner with every tuning, Simulation, the everyday chords (major, minor, 7th, minor 7th), four starter scales and the fundamentals courses are free for everyone. Banjo Pro, one optional purchase and never a subscription, adds the strobe meter, every other chord and scale, and the advanced courses and drills.
