About this app

The Byzantine chant studio (BCS) is an application for dynamically measuring the frequency of the human voice, which is displayed in a comparative overview relative to the intonational positions of tones defined in the theory of Byzantine chant music. These positions are visually and graphically represented in the form of scales as a vertical sequence of tones of a specific musical genus or mode.

BCS is designed to help students and chanters of Byzantine church music to form correct intervals, or to correct incorrectly learned intervals in melodies during the learning and chanting with the aim to preserve the authentic sound of melodies in accordance with the uninterrupted chanting tradition of the Orthodox Church, specifically in the liturgical order of the Church of Constantinople, Mount Athos and other chanting and liturgical centers in Orthodoxy.

Love this app. Question though: why on some scales, is there a blue line, below which I can't chant? I tried adjusting the starting frequency to no avail. Am I doing something wrong?

Respect, Thank God for everything! Can you email me a picture? The blue line is only for plotting the current frequency, and depending on how much you set the initial frequency, because anything below 100 Hz can hardly be caught by voice detection.

Now this is possibly the best practice app for Byzantine chanters! Thank you! The only issue is the ison player only works in the diatonic scale, and doesn't change tuning when selecting a chromatic or enharmonic mode.

Respect, ISON was recorded in a professional studio by singers from -+18 as much as they could get. So I just read as they told me and explained.

Great application. Piano, adjusted to the scales of Byzantine music, is essential for learning and practicing this kind of music. This is the feature that sets this app apart from the rest.
