The Byzantine chant studio (BCS) is an application for dynamically measuring the frequency of the human voice, which is displayed in a comparative overview relative to the intonational positions of tones defined in the theory of Byzantine chant music. These positions are visually and graphically represented in the form of scales as a vertical sequence of tones of a specific musical genus or mode.
BCS is designed to help students and chanters of Byzantine church music to form correct intervals, or to correct incorrectly learned intervals in melodies during the learning and chanting with the aim to preserve the authentic sound of melodies in accordance with the uninterrupted chanting tradition of the Orthodox Church, specifically in the liturgical order of the Church of Constantinople, Mount Athos and other chanting and liturgical centers in Orthodoxy.
